Air-Trak Announces Location Tracking Solution for Microsoft Windows-based Laptops and Windows Mobile 5.0 Devices
–- Enables cost-effective tracking of mobile workers who use Windows devices and easy integration of location tracking services with third-party applications–
SAN DIEGO—February 5, 2007— Air-Trak, Inc. a leading provider of location tracking solutions, is introducing a suite of a new tracking platforms for mobile workforces that deploy Windows-based laptops, Windows Mobile 5.0 handhelds and Smart Device phones.
This new capability enables companies to add location tracking services to their existing GPS-enabled Windows devices easily and affordably, without having to purchase any additional hardware. These field-deployed units can record their locations accurately and continuously, and transmit tracking data in real time over a wireless network or after the fact via any type of Internet connection.
"This is an ideal solution for mobile workforces that have deployed Windows-based devices because it allows them to get more mileage out of their investment by adding an industry-leading location tracking capability. The incremental cost of the tracking solution is very low, and the benefits are enormous," says Air-Trak CEO Greg White.
Expanding the choice—and utility—of mobile devices and applications
In addition to running on Windows-based laptops with integrated GPS receivers (such as the Panasonic Toughbook), Air-Trak® on Windows runs on devices configured with external GPS receivers.
"We've always supported a broad range of end-user platforms, including cell phones, BlackBerry handhelds and vehicle-mounted units," says White. "Now we've taken that one step further by providing location tracking services for fleets that have mobile computing platforms."
Enabling mobile devices to do "double duty"
In addition to allowing Windows devices to be tracked, Air-Trak enables mobile users to track the location of their other colleagues in the field. This type of "double duty" configuration is ideal for remote command posts, field managers or utility crews who need to know the exact location of other vehicles and workers. With the Air-Trak® Enterprise Display running on their laptop computers, these users can monitor other mobile resources in real time on multi-layer maps, with the ability to zoom in and drill down to detailed information about each resource.
Continuous tracking of laptops for greater operational efficiency
Just as Air-Trak In-Vehicle units can track the "idle time" and "loiter time" of a truck, the Air-Trak on Windows platform can monitor the activity of a field-deployed laptop. By reviewing the "turn-on" and "turn-off" status of the unit, as well as the "stationary" versus "traveling" status, companies can gain important insights about the activity and operational efficiency of their mobile resources.
Easy to deploy
The new tracking platform, Air-Trak® on Windows, is also easy to implement. The tracking software can be downloaded, installed and set up in a matter of minutes. Running in the background, the tracking software is invisible to the end user, and consumes very little computing power. It does not limit the use of the device's GPS receiver by other applications. Through an Air-Trak service account, the tracking data is available online, providing real-time display, replay and reporting features.
